Plans for a new Mets stadium in Queens appears to be set for approval when the New York City Council takes a nearly $800 million financing deal today.
The final touches were made yesterday when the Mets promised jobs and other business for Queens.
Queens City Councilman Hiram Monserrate, whose district includes the stadium, said the Mets would set aside $500,000 to sponsor Little League teams and fund programs with nonprofit groups in Queens.
In addition, the team will earmark at least 25 percent of construction jobs for Queens residents and steer 25 percent of its contracts to Queens-based businesses. Minority and women-owned businesses will also benefit from the deal by getting a share of the contracts.
The agreement includes a deal with the Bloomberg Administration to have the city spend $50 million to repair a bridge near the stadium on Roosevelt Avenue.
