Dozens Of Rabbits Removed From NJ House Of Squalor

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) ― Dozens of rabbits were removed from an Atlantic County residence after they were found living in conditions officials called deplorable.

The rabbits were being bred and sold by an elderly Egg Harbor Township man who apparently became overwhelmed with the responsibilities of caring for so many animals, officials said.

The Atlantic County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals removed 57 rabbits from the home on Saturday, but the man did not receive any summonses.

Officials said many rabbits were being kept in cramped cages without adequate food and water or bedding to keep them warm, and some needed medical attention.
