NJ Turnpike Budget: No Toll Hikes
Job Cuts Still Possible
EAST BRUNSWICK (AP) ―
No toll hikes are expected on the New Jersey Turnpike.
The state Turnpike Authority approved a $452 million operating budget yesterday.
It holds the line on tolls, while raising the possibility of job cuts. The last toll increase was three years ago.
The budget increases spending by 5 percent over 2005 and cuts 100 jobs.
For the first time in five years, the authority will pay for a full contingent of state troopers to patrol the toll road. Those troopers will replace others who were transferred to other duties after the 9/11 attacks.
