The New York Mets can put away their pens and power up the pile drivers.
The Mets said Tuesday that they have completed and signed all agreements dealing with the financing, development and construction of their new ballpark.
The $800 million, 45,000-seat stadium reminiscent of old Ebbets Field is set to open for the 2009 season.
Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon said the Mets will soon announce details for a ceremonial groundbreaking.
"Already in our parking lot at Shea Stadium, piles are being driven and excavation and foundation work is beginning," he said.
Last week, the New York Yankees broke ground on their new $1 billion, 53,000-seat ballpark that is scheduled to open in 2009.
