Toilets, Doors From Shea Stadium To Be Salvaged

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) ― You may still get the chance to use the toilets and sinks at Shea Stadium even after it's gone—as long as you visit one of New York City's parks.

The Parks Department has a plan to salvage what it can from Shea after the current season at the ballpark wraps up, including doors, toilets, sinks, lights and even soap dispensers from rest rooms.

The items will then be distributed among parks in the five boroughs, possibly saving the city millions. Workers will remove 327 toilets, 310 urinals, 128 sinks and 100 doors.

Yankee and Shea stadiums are owned by the Parks Department and will be replaced in 2009.

Crews will also strip the ballparks of collectibles—such as seats and foul poles—and sell them at auction.
