Shoppers can visit the store 24 hours a day and shop using the hi-tech touch-sensitive windows.
The new window display at Polo Ralph Lauren looks more like a scene out of "Minority Report" than a page out of "Vogue."
The store is giving the phrase "window shopping" a new name. Customers can now shop for U.S. Open merchandise at Polo's window using a high-tech touch screen.
The technology gives customers more freedom in their shopping. They can see the merchandise but skip the lines, sales people and the crowds.
The windows operate 24 hours, so customers can also come outside of regular store hours.
There's a slot for shoppers for credit card payments, then polo.com will ship the order directly to the shopper's home address. If a customer doesn't want to complete the transaction on the street, the store will immediately e-mail the order to a home computer and the transaction can be completed there.
The new windows use holographic projection screens embedded with grid patterns. Fingers work like a mouse on a computer screen.
You can use the screens by visiting the Polo Ralph Lauren store on Madison Avenue. There are rumors that Nike will be the next to install the screens.
