City Marks Third Anniversary Of Deadly Ferry Crash

NEW YORK (AP) ― Sunday was the third anniversary of the Staten Island ferry crash that killed eleven people and injured scores of others.

Family members are remembering the dead.

The ferry pilot was sentenced to 18 months in prison after he passed out at the helm of the Andrew J Barbieri. The ferry slammed into a concrete pier as it approached the Saint George Terminal on Staten Island. The former ferry director received a year and one day behind bars for not enforcing a rule requiring two pilots to operate ferries during docking.

The city says 109 out of 191 claims filed against it because of the crash have been resolved.
