Brooklyn Teen Collapses, Dies On HS Tennis Court

NEW YORK (CBS) ― A high school student in Brooklyn collapsed on his school tennis court and died Tuesday.

There is anguish and agony from the family of Aaron Marion just a day after his sudden death, especially from his father, Daniel Sylvester, who is now forced to bury his son. A hug from his daughter is a small comfort, but it can't erase the gaping hole in his heart.

"He was the best kid anybody could ask for," Sylvester told CBS 2.

Marion was just 16-years-old when he collapsed on the court while practicing with his high school tennis team.

"This was his first lesson, first practice," said Clarice Sylvester, Aaron's stepmother.

Monte Sutton, who works at the tennis courts, says the junior went down while playing and was unresponsive.

"When I came over I saw the coach doing CPR," said Sutton. "Everybody was just standing around, hoping that he came back."

Medics arrived six minutes after being called but neither they nor doctors could save Marion, who was known to have seizures.

Ever since the epileptic siezures began a year ago, the teen's activities had been limited. But the family says tennis was supposed to be OK.

Mrs. Sylvester told CBS 2 that Marion was given the clearance to play tennis from both the family doctor and a neurologist.

At the High School for Human Rights, the flag was at half staff while friends remembered the classmate who wanted to be a chef.

"He was a good friend, honestly, and to see him pass away hurts me," said Anthony Tabogan, Marion's friend.

But it's devastated the family.

"He was the sweetest child ever, anyone who knows him knows he was the sweetest child," said Mrs. Sylvester.

The family has obtained a lawyer and is considering possible legal action.

"I'd like to know exactly what happened to my son," Mr. Sylvester said.

An autopsy is being conducted on Marion's body. The results are not in yet.
