Flights Still Delayed At Local Airports
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
The effects of the first significant snowfall in the tri-state area are still being felt. The snow made for a nightmare for travelers; especially those who were planning to get on a plane.
Airlines are playing a big game of catch up to make up for all the problems from Friday. At its peak 1,000 flights were cancelled out of the New York area with snow coming down in sheets. Hundreds of out of town passengers were left stranded.
"Now it is Saturday," St. Louis bound Phil Kirk told CBS 2 HD. "I hope maybe I will get home today."
"I am not looking forward to [flying] with two children," added Orlando bound Allison Asher. "It is not going to be easy. I am sure that it is going to be delayed."
Carriers worked quickly to make up for the lost time, trying to get people in the sky and back on schedule. Not only is New York getting up to speed, across the country other delays and other airports are playing catch up.
"It was snowing quite hard in Maine so we were thankful to get out of there," said Orlando bound Jean Voyt.
But connecting proved hard. She was forced to wait, like hundreds of others.
"Airline travel just gets worse and worse everyday. You have a cancelled flight for weather, equipment or anything," Kirk pointed out. "You are in trouble and it cascades."
The FAA is reporting delays of about 90 minutes at Newark Airport, and La Guardia and JFK airports are experiencing minor delays as well. If you are headed out of town, be sure to check with your airline before going to the airport.
