Sharpton To Visit Victim Of Philly Cop Beating
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ―
The Rev. Al Sharpton is scheduled to be in Philadelphia to visit one of three victims of a police beating.
Sharpton is expected Sunday at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility, where Dwayne Dyches is being held. Sharpton, a civil rights activist, says he and Dyches will pray together.
Dyches was traveling in a car with two other men last week when they were pulled over and beaten by Philadelphia police. The incident was captured on videotape by a local TV station.
Police said the three men had been involved in a triple shooting. But Dyches' attorney says police concocted that story. He says Dyches was beaten because he looked like a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a Philadelphia police officer.
