Police Continue Search For Suspected Cop Killer

Amtrak Trains Resume Service After Suspect Reportedly Hopped Off Train

NEWARK (CBS) ― A massive manhunt continues in New Jersey for a suspect in the murder of a Philadelphia police officer. The accused killer may have been spotted on an Amtrak train along the Northeast Corridor Monday morning, prompting service suspension in both directions as Elizabeth police searched for the fleeing suspect. CBS 2 was there as authorities gave chase.

According to a law enforcement source, authorities received a call that one of three suspects wanted in the killing of Philadelphia police officer Stephen Liczbinski over the weekend was on a NJ Transit train and had jumped off, running into the station.

The tip came from a woman on the train who noticed a man wearing a wig, took a picture with her cell phone camera, and forwarded the photo to authorities.

Police are currently searching the area of Freilinghuysen. They had also searched the Weequahic Park and left.

Port Authority and Newark police say this is NJ Transit police job. The Essex Sheriff's office said it is also assisting in the search.

It was shortly after 9 a.m. when New Jersey transit police boarded a train at the Newark Airport stop after receiving a 911 call from a rider who believed a male passenger wearing a wig on board was Eric Deshawn Floyd, a suspected accomplice in the murder of police sergeant Stephen Liczbinski.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter faced media cameras on Monday and called out for Floyd to turn himself in, telling the suspect the search would be too large to avoid.

Sources say it was the daughter of a Philadelphia police officer who noticed the man on the train and snapped a picture of him with her cell phone and sent it back home, initiating the massive search.

Police say the search went on for several hours. According to witnesses, teh suspect slipped through an opening between two cars and fled south along the tracks.

The search was called off late Monday afternoon. Sources say authorities are interviewing eyewitnesses and trying to identify a man caught on surveillance tape running away from the train station.

A reward of more than $100,000 has been offered for information leading
to the arrest and conviction of the officer's killer.
