She's in town to shoot a movie, but could Angelina Jolie be looking to stay in the Big Apple for a while longer? The Oscar-winning actress was spotted in Washington Heights checking out an apartment.
It's a part of Manhattan that still feels like a neighborhood. And pretty soon the residents of Washington Heights will be getting the very famous and very beautiful Jolie as their neighbor.
"I'm hoping I see her. I am looking forward to it," resident John Lanane said.
"That could be good. She is my favorite actress. I love her," Jasmin Willoughby added.
On Tuesday, Jolie toured the Riviera apartment building on the corner of West 157th and Riverside Drive.
Julia Douglass rode the elevator down with the globe-trotting movie star.
"I didn't know she was in there. She was surrounded by bodyguards, enormous huge men," Douglass said.
The Jolie-Pitts are reportedly renting a $60 million mansion on Long Island while Jolie films a movie in New York.
The 225 residents of the luxury co-op building were told the actress would be shooting a movie in their building next month. And a source told CBS 2 HD that the actress is renting an apartment to use for five days during shooting.
"I really don't know what the movie is about, but I guess they were looking for something with a balcony," Lanane said.
Real estate agent and Washington Heights resident Perry Payne said she's not surprised Jolie would want to stay in this area.
"She could come home and be very near nature and the river and all the resources that the Heights have to offer," Payne said.
Residents said the filming in the building will begin next month.
Jolie is up for the best actress Academy Award for her role in Clint Eastwood's "Changeling" this Sunday in Los Angeles.
