It's target practice in the outer boroughs. For the second time in as many weeks, an arrow has been shot in a residential neighborhood, and a Queens man said he just missed getting hit.
Eric Weinberger said he was taking the trash out of his home in Whitestone on Tuesday night when he heard something go whizzing by, followed by a loud bang. A metal-tipped arrow pierced the side of his home, close to a window and a side door.
"It just missed me, maybe one to two seconds earlier it would have hit me. And from the height of the arrow, it would have hit me right in the head," he told CBS 2.
Weinberger said he feared for his children who were right on the other side of that wall.
"They were doing homework with my wife and I yelled for them to get out of where they were because I didn't know if anybody else was shooting," he said.
"The arrow landed in essence on a door jam, about six feet away from where he was talking. We did find another arrow several houses away on that street," said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.
Neighbors say they saw a dark-colored Hummer leave the scene, but so far, police have not confirmed any leads.
"They're investigating," said Weinberger. "They said that size of arrow could have taken down a 1,000 pound deer."
Ten days ago, 51-year-old Denise Delgado was hit in the stomach by an arrow near a nursing home in Riverdale. Eric Collins, 27, was back in court Wednesday after being arraigned on assault and reckless endangerment charges in that incident.
Collins is due back in court on April 18.
Police are still searching for suspects in the most recent arrow incident.
