NYC Proposes Bike Parking Rules In New Buildings
NEW YORK (AP) ―
Officials mull bicycle parking spaces in new office and apartment buildings in the Big Apple.
City officials say the proposal, if approved, would be among the toughest in the nation.
Under the plan released Monday, a 20-unit apartment building would have to provide at least 10 bike parking spaces. Office buildings would have to provide one space for every 7,500 square feet.
The rules would apply only to new construction.
The plan is part of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's long-term vision for a greener city.
The city Planning Commission will vote on the bike parking rules after a public comment period lasting several months.
