A hoof specialist has changed the steel sutures in Big Brown's foot and says the unbeaten colt remains on target for the Belmont Stakes in a bid to take the Triple Crown.
The Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner will go for thoroughbred racing's biggest prize June 7 in the 1 1/2-mile Belmont. It's held at Belmont Park on Long Island.
There was concern when Big Brown missed three days of training this week with a slight crack on the inside of the left front hoof. Hoof specialist Ian McKinlay inserted steel sutures Monday to pull the crack together.
McKinlay says now Big Brown "doesn't even feel it" when McKinlay pushes on the crack. He says by Monday, "it should be in fabulous shape."
