Unconscious Boater Pulled From Barnegat Bay Dies
BEACH HAVEN, N.J. (CBS) ―
A fisherman who called his mother to report his 16-foot boat was sinking died a short time later after he was found unconscious in the Barnegat Bay.
New Jersey state police say 55-year-old Alan Olivier was pulled from the water by a good Samaritan around 11:45 a.m. Friday and transferred to a rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light.
He was taken to the Beach Haven Yacht Club, where emergency service personnel were waiting, but they could not revive him and he was pronounced dead at 12:50 p.m.
The cause of death has not been determined, and further personal information on Olivier was not disclosed Saturday.
The Coast Guard and state police rescue crews were dispatched after Olivier's mother called 911 and reported his approximate location. It was not clear what caused the boat to sink.
The Bay is approximately approximately 30 miles long.
