Several Bronx residents took to the streets late Tuesday night, frustrated over what's being described as another senseless act of violence.
This time, the victim is a 92-year-old woman, killed in her own home at around 6:45 p.m. by what appeared to be a stray bullet that came through a first floor window.
The result, neighbors say, of a shootout between some young people fighting in the street.
"We heard one shot
young kids came out here and started shooting," said witness Darren Bowell.
Police identified the victim as Sadie Mitchell, a familiar face in the neighborhood.
"She was always in the window saying high to everybody. She was a nice person," said neighbor Sotie Vargas.
Those who knew her say it's heartbreaking that after a long life, she would die the way she did.
"It's just crazy. Parents need to take control of their kids and know where they are. This has gotta change," said Danny Palmer.
There have been no arrests. The investigation is ongoing.
