Brutal Robbery Leaves Brooklyn Teen Unconscious

BROOKLYN (CBS) ― Police in Brooklyn are searching for two suspects in a violent robbery that left a teenager lying unconscious on the street.

The incident took place early Friday morning in Crown Heights.

According to eyewitnesses, the assault was a brutal beating of a 16-year-old boy on the sidewalk of Albany Avenue off of Empire Boulevard. Police say the teen was beaten and robbed of his bike, wallet, cellphone and watch. While authorities don't believe the act to be a hate crime, members of the volunteer street patrol in the community have reason to believe it was.

"The visciousness of the attack, how hard he was beaten. We have reason to believe this wasn't just a robbery motivated attack. Maybe the robbery was an after thought," said Binyomin Lifshitz.

The 16-year-old victim is in good condition at Kings County Hospital. He is expected to be released sometime Friday.
