A Brooklyn college student remains in a coma after being nearly beaten to death in a vicious attack during a robbery last week.
Police are searching for five suspects who robbed and assaulted 22-year-old architecture student Eduardo Sanchez last Tuesday night on a Fort Greene street corner in Brooklyn.
Surveille video shows the first two teens casually walking up to an off-camera ATM, seemingly without a worry on their minds. Police say the pair was actually part of pack of boys wanted for the attack on Sanchez.
"The motivation was robbery. His credit cards were taken from him, and the credit cards were subsequently used," said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.
Detectives say the boys approached and surrounded Sanchez at the corner of Lexington and Grand avenues during the short walk from his apartment to Pratt Institute. They demanded money, and when Sanchez initially refused, the suspects punched and kicked him into submission, and took what they wanted.
The surveillance video later shows the three other suspects stroll up to the ATM.
Sanchez remains in a coma, fighting for his life.
"Right now, he is in quite serious condition," said Kelly.
Sanchez's parents flew up from Miami to be with their son, optimistic of a recovery. In the meantime, police are searching for those five suspects and are hoping someone may come forward with information that could lead to their arrests.
