Disturbing Video: Car Thief Attacks 91-Year-Old

Suspect, 22, Faces Life Behind Bars For Attack On WWII Vet

DETROIT (CBS) ― Police have arrested a suspect accused of viciously attacking an elderly World War II veteran, and the entire assault was caught on video.

The suspect was seen throwing nearly two dozen punches at the victim, 91-year-old Leonard Sims, while trying to carjack him on May 4. To make matters worse, Sims was pinned between two cars during the attack. With a small crowd looking on, the suspect was then seen driving off in Sims' car.

Sims suffered some painful bruises from the attack that caused nearly his entire right side of his face to swell up, but he says he never saw the attacker coming.

"He wanted a light for a cigarette. Just at that time, he threw a punch at me," Sims said.

Police were able to capture the suspect, 22-year-old Deontae Edward Bradley, thanks in part to the video. He's been charged with carjacking and assault with intent to do great body harm, and faces up to life in prison if convicted.

Sims is still recovering, but says much of the swelling has gone down.
