A Democratic congressman said Caroline Kennedy has yet to prove she has the ''guts and the gumption'' to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Rep. Gary Ackerman of Queens said on CBS' ''Face the Nation'' Sunday that the Kennedy legend and connections won't be enough to make her a successful senator if Gov. David Paterson appoints her to the U.S. Senate.
The congressman said people know who she is, but they don't know her politics or personality, or how willing she would be to fight for New York's interests.
New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein, who has worked with Kennedy in recent years on education fundraising, defended her as a talented and committed person.
