The Central Park Conservancy has received a $1 million donation to restore and replant trees that were ripped apart by a summer storm.
The donation by JP Morgan Chase was announced Tuesday with Mayor Michael Bloomberg on the Great Hill.
The hilltop meadow was one of the hardest hit areas of the park. The storm damaged or destroyed some 1,500 trees on the evening of Aug. 18.
The storm at the time was even considered to be a tornado. Though it wasn't, the destruction was caused by a strong line of storms that prompted severe thunderstorm warnings from Jersey all the way to Queens. It's believed winds reached about 80 mph during the storm.
