6 Charged After Probe Of UD Student's Death

NEWARK, Del. (AP) ― Newark police have arrested six University of Delaware students on alcohol and drug charges following an investigation into the alcohol-related death of a fellow student last year.

Police said Friday that the arrests stem from information gained during the investigation of the death of freshman Brett Griffin of Kendall Park, N.J., last November, but that the charges do not imply that the six are directly culpable for his death.

Five of those arrested are from New York, and the other from New Jersey.

All are either members or pledges of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, which sponsored a party Griffin was attending when he died.

The university said in a statement that it will take appropriate action.
