NJ Collects Nearly $300K In Child Support Sweep
CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) ―
Nearly 1,000 deadbeat parents in New Jersey are paying up or facing the consequences.
Sheriff's officers in all the state's 21 counties rounded up 949 people this week in a three-day operation. It's part of the State Sheriff's Association's biannual child support warrant sweep.
The roundup targets parents who haven't paid their court-ordered child support or who've failed to show up at court hearings.
The sheriff's association says nearly $300,000 was collected statewide.
The most warrants, 98, were served in Monmouth County. Passaic County had the fewest, with six. More than $103,000 was collected in Bergen County, more than triple the amount collected in any other county.
