Clemens Continues To Deny Steroid Use

NEW YORK (CBS) ― An indignant and defiant Roger Clemens squared off against Mike Wallace, in his first interview since his former personal trainer Brian McNamee accused him of steroid use.

The seven-time Cy Young award winner said he might even be willing to take a lie detector test:

After 25 years playing baseball, Clemens said: "You'd think I'd get an inch of respect. An inch. How can you prove your innocence?"

When Wallace suggested a lie-detector test, Clemens answered, "Some say they're good. Some say they're not. I'd do whatever."

"I'm angry. What i've done for baseball, I don't get the benefit of the doubt," Roger Clemens said.

In refuting McNamee's allegations, Clemens is setting up a potential confrontation with his former personal trainer if the pair testify under oath at a January 16 hearing.

Clemens said there were injections, but they were for lidocaine, a painkiller, and vitamin B12.

However, he had no explanation for teammate Andy Pettite's admission that he had been injected with HGH.

"I have no knowledge of Andy," Clemens said.

McNamee's lawyer says Pettite's admission vindicates his client. "When Andy Petitte stepped up and admitted he took HGH, he gave Brian enormous credibility," attorney Earl Ward said.

So what do the fans think? At the bar at Mickey Mantles there were mixed reactions.

"These guys know what is being put in them. I wouldn't take a shot without knowing what it is," Kurt Cinnamo said.

"Why would Clemens take steroids? He has a great body and a great throw. Why take steroids? So I believe Clemens," Suzette Cabildo said.
