Animal Control Euthanizes NYC Family's Pet
Dog Ran Outside Home Without Collar
NEW YORK (AP) ―
For 13 years, Angel was Jane Guardascione's loving and faithful companion.
On Friday morning, the collie slipped out her home without a collar on and was killed, not by a passing car, but by the Animal Care and Control of New York City.
"How could they do that?" Jane asked.
A neighbor found Angel, made up a flier, and brought the dog to an Animal Care and Control shelter. Meanwhile Guardascione's granddaughter put a missing dog add on Craig's List.
Someone from animal rescue sent her an add for a collie found at the shelter, but it had closed.
On Saturday, they came to the shelter to pick Angel up, but instead they were told the dog was euthanized just a few hours after she was brought in.
The staff at the shelter said they had to put Angel down.
The Guardasciones insist Angel was in good health. "All she had was a little arthritis," Jane said.
They hope that by sharing their story another beloved pet won't suffer the same fate.
