Under gray skies over Coney Island, it was Chestnut by a bun. Well, not really. It was more like three full hotdogs and buns.
In total, the contestants woofed down hundreds of hotdogs in this gastronomic gorgefest.
Chestnut ate 66 hotdogs, and Takeru Kobayashi ate 63.
It was a dog-eat-dog contest as the competitors stuffed themselves full of dogs.
Some 45,000 people gathered on the Coney Island boardwalk to watch the competitive hotdog eaters step up to the plate for Nathan's Famous annual hot dog eating contest.
Speculation was rife ahead of the contest about whether six-time champ Kobayashi would be able to compete after he announced that he was suffer from arthritis of the jaw.
For six years in a row, Kobayashi has been the top dog of hotdogs at this great Coney Island July 4 tradition.
Ahead of the contest Dee Beasley of the Bronx said, "I've never seen anyone eat that many hotdogs. It'll be funny to watch. I hope I don't see anyone get sick."
Even before the hot dog winner is announced, Brooklyn got another winner -- it's newest lottery millionaire.
The 37-year-old man from Autumn Park already has plans for the money."I will invest it in my business and give some of it to charity," he said.
