Gov. Jon Corzine leads Republican Chris Christie in the 2009 race for New Jersey governor. That's according to a poll taken before either man has officially declared himself a candidate.
The Quinnipiac University Poll out Wednesday has the Democratic incumbent up by 42 percent to 36 percent over Christie, the U.S. attorney for New Jersey.
Corzine is expected to seek re-election, although he has been rumored to be in line for a post in the Obama administration. Many Republicans have been encouraging Christie to run for governor, but he said as recently as Tuesday that he hasn't made up his mind. Pollster Clay Richards says Obama's coattails may be helping Corzine's re-election prospects, at least for now.
The telephone survey of 2,020 registered voters was taken Nov. 12-17 and has a sampling error margin plus or minus 2.2 percentage points.
