Poll: Most New Jerseyans Oppose Toll Hikes
Disapproval Most Widespread Among Republicans
TRENTON (AP) ―
Governor Corzine is not surprised New Jerseyans surveyed don't like the economic medicine he's prescribing.
A Fairleigh Dickinson PublicMind poll released today finds 59 percent oppose Corzine's plan to raise tolls to pay down debt.
According to the poll, 33 percent support it and 8 percent are undecided. Opposition is widespread among 51 percent of Democrats, 62 percent of independents and 68 percent of Republicans.
Corzine's job approval is slipping. The survey shows 41 percent approve and 39 percent disapprove of his job performance. That's down from 44-36 percent in an FDU poll released last week.
The governor says he wants a broad number of people to understand the state faces a serious financial emergency.
The telephone poll of 906 registered voters statewide was has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
