After a five year international custody fight, a New Jersey man has finally won the battle to get 8-year-old his son back.
They will be reunited Wednesday in Brazil.
Sean Goldman, 8, will be turned over to his biological father, David, and coming back home to Tinton Falls, New Jersey by the end of the week, after a federal court in Brazil ruled in David Goldman's favor.
"You can't kidnap our child," David Goldman said on March 14.
This sad saga began in June of 2004 when Sean's mother, Bruna, took him on what was supposed to be a two-week trip to her native Brazil. She then phoned her husband saying the marriage was over.
A Brazilian judge granted her a divorce.
She then remarried in Brazil in 2007 but died in childbirth.
That's when a Brazilian court granted custody of Sean to his stepfather.
Goldman, however, fought harder to get his son back, traveling with New Jersey Congressman Christopher Smith to Brazil in February where he met with his son for the first time in five years.
"He called me dad," Goldman said.
Now with the judge's ruling, father and son are being reunited.
"I love you. I love you forever," Goldman said.
BringSeanHome.org, the online campaign to return Sean Goldman to the U.S., posted the following: "We wish to express our sincere appreciation to everyone who has supported David Goldman's +4 year battle for justice. It wasn't just a few people but hundreds of thousands of supporters around the world that made this happen. Tonight the we can say that the power of people working together has no limits, and surely the millions of prayers for David and Sean were heard.
