"Well, you know, 2008 was kind of a tough year for some of us. There was a lot going on, some things we didn't have any control over," said Erin Hobday, diet and nutrition editor.
Shedding the pounds requires eating more of the right foods to satisfy and energize, ditching the junk food full of empty calories, and resizing your servings.
"A lot of us use frozen meals when we're trying to lose weight. The other thing they are good for is learning about the kind of portions you should be eating," Hobday said.
For a new financially secure you, step two, tame your finances by simply making a couple of small cutbacks.
Trim your Cable TV package of premium channels to save up to $55 a month. Lose your landline and put up to $45 back in your pocket. And, believe it or not, if you boycott your favorite coffee shop, you'll have more than $300 extra bucks a month.

Y4ou can start by taking inventory. If you don't know what you have, you don't know what you need.
Next. clear away the clutter. If you're not using it, put it away or dump it.
Make a list of birthdays, anniversaries and other special events. Re-gift unwanted and unused holiday gifts and gift cards.
Looking for true love in 2009? Step four is to put some work into your relationships.
To do that, the experts agree, if you want something, say it. Your partner is not an interpreter. And communication is key so keep the conversation going, even if it's frivolous.
Here's one tip to shrink the waistline and grow the wallet: get two appetizers instead of an entree and appetizer to save cash and calories.
