The New York state attorney general says a suburban college underreported campus crime for several years, putting its students at risk.
Attorney General Andrew Cuomo investigated after a student at Dominican College in Blauvelt committed suicide in 2006. The student had claimed she was gang-raped, but prosecutors said they could not establish that a crime had been committed.
A civil lawsuit is pending.
Cuomo said Friday that the Dominican student handbook incorrectly reported campus crime numbers for several years. He announced that the college has agreed to pay $20,000 and set up procedures to assure accuracy in the future.
The college attorney, Phil Semprevivo, said the incorrect figures were typographical errors that were corrected before Cuomo investigated.
Dominican College, founded in 1952, is located in the Hudson Valley area about 17 miles from New York City.
