Dumpster Dispute Ends With Driveway Full Of Debris

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (CBS) ― A pile of debris is dumped on a Suffolk County man's driveway, and he claims that it was no prank.

Christian Yanz and his family sat on the front stoop of their home – their pride and joy – near-tears, and in utter disbelief.

"It's sad because everyday we work hard, try to keep the house clean, make the neighborhood nice," Yanz says. But this – it's like a nightmare for me."

This was no childish prank, but a calculated act of revenge, says Yanz.

He told Suffolk Police he is the undeserving victim of a pile of demolition debris dumped on his brand-new stone driveway while he was at work.

"I was late in one payment, [and] he does all this to me," Yanz says.

Yanz, a contractor and landscaper, bought the East Patchogue home with his brother five years ago for $275,000 and estimates he's poured another $100,000 into renovations. But Yanz still owes $600 to a Dix Hills hauler for the use of a dumpster.

Yanz says that he's never had trouble before and has done his best to pay his bills on time.

"In this economy it's a little bit tough, but I'm trying," he says. "Everybody's trying"

CBS 2 called the hauler, who at first denied responsibility, but then said Yanz was to blame for slow payment and lots of work still owed on his girlfriend's home. CBS 2 tried talking to the hauler at his job site, but he never showed.

"He had a family too. So he has to understand the situation," Yanz says. "Now it's going cost me a couple thousand dollars to fix the driveway, moving all this stuff."

The town of Brookhaven is also investigating, but says that, since the rubble is not on the street, it is Yanz's responsibility to clear it from his driveway.

Yanz says the debris is piled so high that he can't get his car out of the garage to get to work.
