2 Struck By Stray Bullets In East Harlem

NEW YORK (CBS) ―
An 11-year-old boy has been shot in East Harlem, hit by a stray bullet and he's not the only victim.
It appears to be a bystander shooting a warm weather casualty, as the guns of summer emerge for the season.
The shooting occurred at the East River Houses at First Avenue and 105th Street, where shots struck down the boy, who had just gotten out after a half-day at school.
A 77-year-old man, who was standing nearby, was also struck.
Both shooting victims are expected to survive, but the incident has left the mothers and families in the neighborhood shaken especially since everyone knows the boy who was shot.
"You're innocent, you're playing out here, and then someone comes and decides to start shooting, just for the heck of it? That's not right," one resident said.
"I was just playing with him yesterday, and to hear that he got shot, that's crazy," the victim's friend said. "A lot has changed around here. This hasn't happened here in a long time that I've seen."
"The kid's a great kid, there was a half a day of school. I was told by my husband that there was shooting out here, to come outside, because my big son was out here playing basketball," a resident and mother said. "I was told that the little boy was shot and the mother is very worried about him.
Some of the older boys and young men are not happy about the presence of the media and police in the neighborhood.
The boy was hit in the leg, and officials say it was a grazing wound. He's at New York Hospital, and is expected to recover.
The older victim is at Metropolitan Hospital after being shot in the back.
Police say they are looking for the shooter or shooters who struck down two pedestrians, two innocent bystanders, in the East Harlem neighborhood Sunday afternoon.
