A section of a collapsed crane protrudes from a crushed building on 50th Street near Second Avenue Saturday, March 15, 2008, in New York City. The giant crane toppled over at a construction site and smashed into a block of East Side residential buildings.

A restaurant and bar employee who was trapped in the East Side crane fortunately collapse survived the ordeal. The owner narrowly avoided the tragedy, and says his life was spared because of a baseball game.
Owner and operator John LaGreco spoke with CBS 2HD on Saturday.
"I was supposed to be at work at one o'clock today but I watched the Yankees preseason game, got wrapped up in the game, then in the fourth inning it went to peices so I said: 'Forget it, I'm going to take a shower and go to work'. I get out of the shower and my girlfriend comes home and says: 'A crane fell on your bar'."
The establishment called Fubar was located on the first floor of a five-story brownstone building that was completely destroyed in the collapse. It was closed at the time, but worker Juan Perez was cleaning inside.
He became trapped for 3.5 hours, before firefighters rescued him. According to LaGreco, his friend Perez suffered a broken leg and has memory loss.
