A patient is undergoing a new, alternative technique for a facial. It is softer and just as beneficial as the more harsher styles.

For people with sensitive skin, getting a facial can be anything but relaxing. However, there is a new technique that helps put smiles back on their freshly-scrubbed faces.
A gentler form of skin resurfacing is helping people get that youthful glow, it's called the "Hydrafacial."
"Because of my ethnicity, we have discoloration sometimes, because I love the sun so I do get different pigmentation," says Nora Ariffin, a regular Hydrafacial patient.
"The first time I went, and I was like wow what an improvement, I mean drastically," Ariffin adds.
The treatments can be used on just about anyone.
Dr. Jon Turk, a facial plastic surgeon, suggests which skin types are suitable. "Patients with poor skin textures, patients with pigment abnormalities, patients with fine lesions, bumps and lumps on the skin," he says.
The Hydrafacial is ideal for patients with sensitive skin and ethnic skin because it is less likely than other modalities to cause scarring or hyperpigmentation.
Here's how it works: a diamond tip dermabrasion exfoliates the skin. Then the device puts pressure on the skin and vacuums out dirt and oil.
"So that opens the pores and then cleanses the pores, all kind of the same motion," Dr. Turk says.
Finally, an antioxidant and botanical serum stimulates healing and collagen production.
"The nice thing about the system is that there's really no down time," Dr. Turk adds.
"I just go from here back to my office and from here to meet clients and not have to worry about being red," Araffin says.
Results from the Hydrafacial are not instantaneous, although some people do see results after just one session. Doctors recommend having it done every four to eight weeks, depending on the individual and the goals of their treatment.
However, Hydrafacial sessions are not cheap; they range in price from $120 to $350 for a single visit.
