Fire officials believe the fire that left one of our bravest dead in Brooklyn was set by a 6-year-old boy.
Investigators said the child accidentally started the fire by putting holiday wrapping paper on top of a lit stove, and then trying to hide the flaming package under a bed.
Lieutenant John Martinson died from smoke inhalation and thermal burns, while fighting the flames.
"John would never expect any of his guys to go anywhere he wasn't going. And basically its follow me," firefighter Joe LaPoint said.
Eddie Thompson, Martinson's friend, described the fallen firefighter: "The kind of guy that helped everyone and never asked for anything."
Lieutenant Martinson leaves a his pregnant wife and a 22-month old son.
A wake will be held Sunday and Monday on Staten Island.
