Coast Guard Rescues 3 From Boat Sinking Off NJ

FORTESCUE, N.J. (CBS) ― Three people aboard a 22-foot boat that sunk Friday in waters off southern New Jersey were rescued by the Coast Guard and the crew of a passing vessel.

None of those rescued from the Big Trout were injured, officials said.

A person aboard the boat called the Coast Guard just after 10 a.m. and reported it was taking on water about five miles southeast of Fortescue Inlet.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Fortescue and a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City responded, but before they arrived crew members from another vessel, the Serenity, had pulled two people from the water.

The third person was then rescued by the coast guard crew at about 11 a.m. All three were taken to a marina in nearby Maurice River.
