Foxy Brown Accused In NYC Of Violating Probation

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) ― Rapper Foxy Brown was summoned to court unexpectedly Monday after being accused of violating probation stemming from a fight in a nail salon more than two years ago.

Brown, appearing in Manhattan Criminal Court, where she was sentenced in October to three years probation, was accused of failing to keep appointments with probation officers, appear for anger management classes and submit to drug tests.

Brown "is flouting the court-ordered conditions of her probation," said Shawnda Weinberg, a lawyer for the city Department of Probation. "She's asked for special treatment. She's told us, 'I'm not like them (others on probation)."'

Brown, 26, was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault charges in August for kicking one employee and smacking a second in the face on Aug. 29, 2004, in an argument over payment for a manicure at Bloomie Nails.

Weinberg suggested to Judge Melissa C. Jackson that Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, should spend some time in jail.

The judge, who sentenced Brown in October, warned her to comply with the terms of her sentence or face going to jail. The judge would not let Brown speak, telling her to wait until her next court appearance when her lawyer is present.

Brown's latest lawyer, her fifth, is state Sen. John Sampson, D-Brooklyn.

Outside court, Brown said, "I have never violated probation. This is happening to me because I'm Foxy Brown."

The rapper said she had submitted to drug tests "and they came back clean, negative, perfect."

Brown said the accusation about her wanting to be treated specially resulted from her reluctance to sit in a downtown Brooklyn probation office during the late evening for three hours "with all kind of criminals" without any security.

"My safety was in jeopardy," Brown said. "I asked can we make another plan, and he said I had to sit there like every other probationer. I didn't think they were going to throw me in with the wolves."

Brown, whose albums include "Ill Na Na" and "Chyna Doll," is known for her sexy outfits and racy lyrics.
