Mt. Kisco Police At Center Of Murder Investigation
by Brendan Keefe
HAWTHORNE, N.Y. (CBS) ―
The investigation into the killing of a homeless Guatemalan immigrant in Bedford has led to two Mount Kisco police cars being impounded.
The three Mt. Kisco officers assigned to these police cars last weekend were among the last people to see Rene Perez alive.
Perez, a 42-year-old Guatemalan immigrant was found April 28 dying on a road in Bedford. An autopsy revealed Perez died of internal abdominal injuries and the Westchester Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide.
Mt. Kisco police say they responded to a 911 call from Perez that night, just before he was found dying.
They described him as drunk and slurring his words on the phone at a Mt. Kisco laundromat. The responding officers reported the call "cleared" at 10:55 P.M. because Perez didn't have a "police matter."
An hour later and six miles away, Perez was found unconscious along a dark road in Bedford.
Investigators believed he may have been dumped there.
It's the third murder of a Guatemalan immigrant in Mt. Kisco.
42-year-old Roberto Martinez was strangled in 2004 and 33-year-old Santos Bojorguez was strangled six months earlier. Both had been drinking, like Perez, before they were killed.
All three cases remain unsolved and police won't say if the homicides are related.
