Little Timothy smiled from the balcony of his apartment on Friday, one day after falling four stories from the fire escape.
Luckily for him, on Thursday, Julio Gonzalez and Pedro Nevarez were down below and across the street and happened to see the 3-year dangling up above.
They ran across the street knowing they only had seconds to save him.
"I seen that I thought it was a doll or something. I just kicked the gate open and started running and said, 'God if you let me get to where he's at, I promise you I'll catch him, I won't let him hit the floor,'" Gonzalez said.
Nevarez, who is Gonzalez's best friend, said, "Actually he bounced off of me. I couldn't get a good grip, and he grabbed him. He knocked me out of my shoes."
Timothy was with a babysitter in a fifth floor apartment when he crawled out of the window, onto the fire escape and then fell to the fire escape one story below.
According to the home health care worker who was inside the fourth floor apartment, she saw Timothy on the fire escape, holding on for dear life, but she couldn't open the security gate fast enough.
Doreen Brathwaite who lives in the apartment heard the child crying out.
"I hear, 'Help me! Help me!' That's what I heard," Brathwaite said. "It's a miracle. I am telling you, that child was to live."
Reluctant to talk, Timothy's mother held her son tightly at the door, she said he is doing just fine.
