What Are The Must-Have Toys This Holiday Season?

NEW YORK (CBS) ― From the Cabbage Patch Doll to Tickle Me Elmo, holiday season there is at least one toy that creates a shopping frenzy for parents to put underneath the tree by Christmas morning. Here are this year's hard-to-come-by holiday gifts, with how and where to get your hands on them for less.

The biggest toy holiday of them all is just six short weeks away. From baby dolls to trains to the rubicks cube, finding that perfect toy for the kids is quickly becoming a priority for parents. "I'm definitely going early. I want to get what they want and if I lose a sale, I lose a sale," said Amy Padula, mother of two.

"I have no idea yet. They have a lot of dolls, and they have a lot of games," said Mishonna McCottry from Rosedale.

With a dizzying array of toys vying for your children's attention, what should you be buying? Toy trend expert Richard Gottlieb says, "You want something that will last a long time, provide a lot of entertainment. Look for a product that engages the family rather than a product you just watch."

Gottlieb says Wii Fit will be tops again this year. The Elmo live doll has already sold out at some online retailers, along with the hot boy's toy, the Bakugan.

"We've been seeing that selling out pretty much the whole year," said another trend spotter, the CEO of FAO Schwarz, Ed Schmults.

A classic jack-in-a-box, featuring an FAO bear is a top seller this season at $20. Green Santa, teaching kids about their role in the environment, and the myagi, today's $7 version of the hacky-sack from your college days, are also flying out the door.

And what does our pint-sized expert, Alexis from Old Bridge say is a must have for the 6-year-old set? "Barbie dolls, there's the pretty Barbie doll and she has a ring that lights up," she said.

Guitar Hero: World Tour is hot and virtually sold out. Bidding on eBay is always an option, as well as buying them slightly used at sites like Amazon.com
