Holiday Gift Guide: Hottest Gadgets For Dad
by CNET's Natali Del Conte
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
If you're still looking for that perfect holiday gift for dad, CNET's Natali Del Conte has this year's must-have items.
Polar FT80 Heart Rate Monitor
If the man in your life likes to work out, or if you want him to start, the Polar FT-80 is a great gift. It's one of the top of the line heart rate monitors. It is especially for men who enjoy weight training because it tells you when to start your next set based on your heart rate measurement. It also measures calories, aerobic fitness, and weekly training targets.
Sony MDR-V700DJ
Anyone who loves music will appreciate these Sony headphones. These are from the MDR series, specifically the MDR-V700DJ earphones. They are one of the highest rated set of earphones on CNET because they have superior sound quality, a folding design, and 10-foot coiled cord.
Sony PSP 3000
This is the latest edition of the Playstation Portable. It was launched in October, and is lighter and slimmer than previous models. It also has a better screen resolution and on-board Skype calling over Wi-Fi.
Sonim XP1
If the man in your life is a bit more rugged, he will love the Sonim XP1. It is indestructable. I've thrown it across the room at a distance of about 30 feet and it didn't even smudge. It is also dirt-proof, dust-proof, and uses push-to-talk. Unfortunately, none of the carriers sell it so you have to buy it yourself unlocked online and then activate it with your carrier but if you've got a rugged man who is prone to destroying cell phones, it is worth it.
Logitech Squeezebox Boom
The Logitech Squeezebox Boom is made to play your entire music library in your home. It uses your home broadband network to play the music you own on your computer, but it also plays internet radio stations such as Pandora or Last FM. This is a CNET Editor's Choice because it seems like something that would be complicated but isn't. Logitech did a really nice job of making this product easy to use.
Mead Backpack Observatory Telescope
Finally, for the outdoors-man in your life, this is the Mead Backpack Observatory Telescope. It comes from the discovery store. It is great for anyone who loves astronomy because it has an 80 millimeter lens, a field compass, and a computer controller system that lets you locate celestial objects at the touch of a button. It is also portable and light at only 7.5 pounds.
