JetBlue Plane Struck By Lightning
NEW YORK (CBS/AP) ―
CBS 2 has learned a JetBlue airplane was struck by lightning today.
Officials say none of the 140 passengers aboard the Airbus A 320 were injured.
Flight 43 was en route from Rochester to JFK Airport when lightning struck, causing an odor similar to an electrical fire to permeate the plane's cabin. But officials say the lightning didn't create smoke in the plane.
JetBlue spokesman Bryan Baldwin says the plane made an emergency landing at JFK just before 6pm, getting passengers to their destination about 20 minutes early.
Jetblue says it is common for a plane to be hit by lighting and the aircrafts are designed to handle it.
