John White Trial Jury Meet In Rare Weekend Session

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBS) ― It is a trial that has divided a Long Island community -- and has apparently divided a Suffolk County jury. Today -- jurors met in a rare weekend session to decide the fate of John White - the father accused of shooting a teenager to death.

The defense team for John White took advantage of time Saturday - the fourth special weekend deliberation over the 54-year-old father's fate.

Daniel Cicciaro Jr. was shot dead outside the White Suffolk County home in a confrontation over a girl.

"We want to make a few facts very clear, in light of misstatements, misrepresentations, and outright untrues," said defense attorney Frederick Brewington as he addressed any confusion that may have arisen over the relationship between his client's son and Cicciaro Jr. - saying the two were anything but friends.

"Aaron White was not treated as friend, but was labeled (obscenity), threatened, and cursed at, like he had no rights as a person," explained Brewington.

The message fell short of the ears that matter most - jurors who have expressed difficulty in reaching a verdict as they continue to labor on.

The Cicciaro family have their own take on the relationship between the boys.

"They were all friends," said the victim's father, Daniel Cicciaro Sr. "There's no dispute about that."

It's up to the jury to decide.

Lawyers are concerned if the holidays might impact the jurors. Lawyers don't want the jurors to feel rushed into a decision but as this fourth day nears closing and heads into a fifth - that does not appear to be the case.

As of 7:30 p.m. Saturday, jurors were still in court, continuing to deliberate.
