Duane Reade Adds Erotic Products To Its Shelves
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
The only thing Duane Reade stores are missing now is rock 'n' roll. That's because the popular drug store chain just made its shelves a bit sexier.
Anyone looking to spice up their sex life can now just go to one of the more than 200 New York area Duane Reades where Kama Sutra brand sex aids can be found.
Whether its the luscious, kissable cream for sensual massage or the handmade feather applicator, the new products are the hot new buzz around town.
"Is this for the adults or the children?" asks Tataria, a Duane Reade customer.
Store executives say the products are definitely for adults as something they hope will promote sexual wellness as part of overall wellness.
Even local clergy are chiming in, but some say the addition of the products to the store doesn't necessarily make the store itself more risqué.
"It's not like the old sex shops we had here in Times Square," said Rev. Peter Colapietro of Holy Cross Church.
Regardless of whether the products have your blessing or not, the Kama Sutra products are turning up in places you might not expect. Currently they're also available in mini bars in New York hotels, and a company spokeswoman says negotiations are underway to place them with a national hotel chain to make them even more mainstream in Manhattan.
The company says it's also pitching its products to spas and big department stores including Bloomingdales.
