The hunt continues Wednesday morning for two men who slammed a stolen SUV into a car in Newark, killing the driver.
Her death is a painful reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike.
Heather Clemens, 42, was killed on Tuesday when two suspects, fleeing police in a stolen SUV, crashed into her Dodge Neon sedan near Weequahic Park.
Clemens, a mother of three, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two suspects, who police say climbed out of the wreckage and ran into the park, are still on the loose. Clemens' ex-husband wants the two criminals to turn themselves in.
"We pray for them and their families," said Gregory Clemens. "We don't want harm for them, but this is tragic for us. She was a good mother, a great mother who would do anything for her kids."
Investigators say the incident actually began in neighboring Elizabeth, where the suspects were spotted by police breaking into parked cars. A teenager was taken into custody, but the suspects fled in the SUV. They raced into Newark and collided with Clemens' sedan.
Now her family, stricken with grief, is desperately struggling to hold it together.
"I'm just determined to make sure everything she set out for us happens because her death won't be in vain," said Clemens' daughter, Gizelle.
