Laser Hair Removal Now Available At Home
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
The most effective treatments for getting rid of wrinkles, acne and unwanted hair have always been found in doctors offices and medi-spas, until now. Lasers and light machines similar to those found in dermatologists office have been simplified and adapted for home use.
"This is a really exciting time in beauty because all the space age gadgets you've been using at a dermatologists office, laser hair removal fancy acne treatment, LED treatment for wrinkles are now available for your home," said Kristin Perotta of Allure Magazine.
That's right, the machines and lasers once used only by professionals have shrunken in size, and over the long term, will cost less than office visits.
When Allure spoke with dematologists about these gadgets we found in general that they were supportive, they did feel like you can get results, that they were worth it for women who were not going to come to their offices. However, they did caution that these products do take a while to see results.
For example, an office visit for an anti-wrinkle treatment can cost hundreds per session.
Treatment with a home device takes about half an hour with one by Perricone, Omnilux or Tanda, at a cost of between $300 and $400, with results that are cumulative over time.
The anti-acne device also uses a light treatment. The light can effectively prevent acne form ever forming.
For the home version, they are around $300 to $400, and once you spend that money you have that for the life of the product.
Laser hair devices for laser hair removal can cost between $250 and $1,000 with one even being used in some doctors' offices.
"In my office I use it as an adjunct to laser hair removal that I do, so when I completed a larger body area and the patient just wanted a touch up, that's something that can be done easily at home," said dermatologist Dr. Doris Day. "So with guidance this makes a nice adjunct but it will never replace what I do."
