Man Struck After Falling From Car Window Onto LIE

ISLANDIA, N.Y. (AP) ― Authorities say a man hanging out the window of a moving car was seriously injured when he fell out onto the Long Island Expressway and was struck by a hit-and-run driver.

They say the car he had been riding in also drove off.

Suffolk County Sheriff's Department spokesman Michael Sharkey says that officers found 22-year-old Javon Jones on the middle of the road in Islandia about 4 a.m. Friday. A female who had been with him in the car was with him on the road.

Jones was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center with head trauma and a broken femur.

Sharkey says the female passenger told investigators that Jones was hanging out of the window before he fell out. He says she has uncooperative.

The accident remains under investigation.
