Personal Concierges Becoming A New Trend
by Kirstin Cole
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
Do you have a list a mile long of things to do and just can't seem to get through it? Well, now you too can have your own personal concierge.
From walking dogs and planning parties to delivering groceries, it's all in a day's work for Jill Holmquist. "Whatever anyone needs, that's what I do," she told
CBS2 News' Kirstin Cole.
Holmquist is a home concierge -- she'll help you take care of a million-and-one things.
When Mary Ann Harrison's list got too long, she called for help. "Running errands, like returning mail-order items and picking things up, things that land on your plate and you kept putting them off. Time is so precious, and this is a way to buy time," Harrison said.
What will it cost you?
The rate varies depending on where you live and the job you want done, but it's typically anywhere from $25 to $50 an hour.
Katharine Giovanni is President of the International Concierge and Errand Association. "We have over 500 members in 20 countries around the world," Giovanni said.
And business is booming.
"Over the last year we've had a 110% increase in our membership," Giovanni said.
So is anything off limits for these personal concierges? Not much.
"Anything that's in the yellow pages that's legal, a concierge will do," Holmquist said.
